Most requested Wedding Songs

It’s logical to assume if you invite guests to request songs they’ll all fill the dance floor.
In reality, not everyone is confident when it comes to music.
Around 80% of people do not engage with it and it’s just background in their life.
This is why not everyone goes clubbing or to music festivals and gigs.
It’s also why radio stations play the same songs over and over, so whenever you listen you’ll hear a familiar tune you’ll like.
At a wedding familiarity is important because you have a mix of all ages and tastes.
But familiarity doesn’t have to mean “same old tired wedding cheese”.
When you hear a track attached to a positive memory, your brain releases dopamine and you feel happy.
This is called “The nostalgia bounce” and it’s usually created by music attached to moments in your life between the ages of 15 to 25.
These are the songs which provided the soundtrack to the end of school, holidays abroad with your mates, the independence of getting a car or moving out and quite often falling in love.
Our DJs want to play tracks which have this effect on as many people in the room as possible, because
this will create a really good party atmosphere.

Atmosphere at a party is created when lots of people are having fun.
Alcohol will contribute to this and so will the psychological safety of being around people you feel comfortable with, like family and friends.
Obviously music has a big part to play and as DJ’s we’re pretty good at knowing which songs will appeal to the crowd in front of us.
This comes from years of experience backed up by the data from our “Tinder for party music” app which brides and groom can access to give us guidance on their tastes.

Having the right set of songs will only get a DJ so far.
Knowing when to play them during the night is crucial.
Playing “the big party songs” too soon before alcohol has taken effect rarely works so asking for Mr Brightside at half 7 when the evening guests who have just arrived and are still sober won’t fill the floor like it would a few hours later.
If a couple has less mainstream tastes it might be better to play these songs when the older relatives have left it’s just your core friends on the dance floor.
Weeknight weddings have become popular and a good DJ will approach these differently, assuming a lot of people will look to leave at 10pm because they have work the next day.
In which case we’ll bring our big crowd pleasers forward to catch them before they go.
If there is a particular reason why a song is important (from the Stag or Hen weekend) then let us know when you ask for it, although we might wait until we can see them all in the room before we play it.
There are a few things which will hinder a good party atmosphere.
Sometimes in June, if it’s still light at half 9 and 25 degrees outside guests would often rather be on the decking socialising regardless of what we play.
At these times we might revert to playing songs to suit the mood instead of desperation and holding onto the best songs until people are ready to dance.
Evening guests, a buffet or an absent bride and groom will also impact the atmosphere.
Most DJs will try and play your request as long as it doesn’t contradict the couples guidance.
Please remember they’ve paid the bill so they are entitled to dictate what gets played.

As we said earlier, our aim is for the couple to have a brilliant night.
We also want to make it easy for you to make good music choices.
With that in mind here are the Top 500 Most Requested Wedding Bangers from the hundreds of weddings and events we provided last year.
